Staff Accountant I or II

Crawford Smith & Swallow is currently looking for an experienced full-time accountant for our Niagara Region Offices. You will be challenged with increasingly important accounting and audit roles for our clients. You will be challenged with recognizing, analyzing and understanding our client’s business and their needs, as well as helping to train and develop junior staff. The ideal individual has an aptitude for developing and maintaining good relationships with clients and staff. You must be able to handle a variety of responsibilities in a professional manner, working on multiple assignments with a high degree of autonomy over your work and producing high-quality deliverables with short deadlines. 

The client base includes a multitude of corporations, small & medium sized businesses, local government, agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality and not- for-profit sectors.

As a Staff Accountant, you will be responsible for the following:

  • Maintaining books of accounts; journal entries, reconciliations
  • Reconciling accounts
  • Preparing trial balance of books
  • Maintaining general ledgers and financial statements
  • Calculating and prepare cheques for payroll
  • Calculating and preparing GST/HST, payroll and other government remittances
  • Preparing T4’s, T4A’s, and T5018’s
  • Preparing corporate income tax returns
  • Completing WSIB and EHT filings
  • Recording investments either using Excel or using specific software program
  • Preparing personal income tax returns
  • Keep financial records and establish, maintain and balance various accounts using manual and computerized bookkeeping systems

The successful candidate will have:

  • Post-secondary education, with a focus on accounting preferred
  • CPA Designation NOT required for this position
  • Minimum three (3) years experience in a public accounting firm preferred
  • Bookkeeping experience
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Remuneration based on experience.
